When the Deadbolt Breaks Drifting Toward the Edge of the Earth

This Connecticut-based experimental doom trio’s third full-length is a massive, sprawling beast of crushing psychedelic drone-rock. The nearly two-hour experience sounds like a trek through all sorts of scorched, desolate terrain with enticing riffs and vocals ranging from typically human singing to tortured roars. One of my favorite tracks on Disc 1 (titled “The Drifting”) is the soothing instrumental “Too Much Perfection is a Mistake” with electric guitars and bass that make it sound like an awestruck gaze at a golden, cloudy late-day sky. Disc 2 is “The Endless,” consisting of the nearly fifty-minute, five-part “My Coffin Is Loaded With Sand and Fire,” which is laden with hypnotic, emotion-rich guitar work and guest vocals.
