Warm Soda Symbolic Dream
(Castle Face)
This sunny power-pop record is the third from the current band led by Memphis-born and Austin-based Matthew Melton (formerly of Bare Wires.) Warm Soda’s Symbolic Dream is a return to summery rock ‘n’ roll nostalgia, with zippy electric-guitar melodies for a real “goes down easy” feeling with Melton’s casual crooning. He especially utilizes this on the closing track “Lemonade Lullaby,” going for a shimmering reverb-tinged trip down 50s school slow-dance memory lane.

Fink Hard Believer
(R’COUP’D)
Led by English singer-guitarist-keyboardist Fin Greenall, Fink’s sixth album (named after a deep-South term for someone who needs proof to be persuaded) is nearly an hour of deeply personal, bluesy indie-folk rock. These introspective songs sound like they drew strong inspiration from real-life experiences, with some of the most powerful moments being end-of-romance ones such as “Two Days Later” and a recollection of being taught the tragic despair of “Shakespeare” in school.
