Full of Hell & Merzbow
Full of Hell & Merzbow
Full of Hell Merzbow
(Profound Lore (CD) / A389 (LP))
The idea for this collaboration started with Maryland/Pennsylvania grindcore band Full of Hell (who had met Merzbow’s live drummer Balázs Pándi at a Phobia show they opened for) wanted to use the cover art for Merzbow’s Pulse Demon on a shirt. The man behind the project (Masami Akita) agreed, and that led to the idea of a split before finalizing a collaboration. The resulting sound is primarily Full of Hell’s blistering powerviolence/hardcore sound supplemented with Merzbow’s noise for an additional kick. The CD edition has the second disc “Sister Fawn” with it being the other way around: Full of Hell playing along to Merzbow’s harsh drone.

Lia Ices Ices
Print
(Jagjaguwar)
Originally from Westport, Connecticut, this singer-songwriter takes a new direction on her third record, diversifying the instrumentation on her indie folk-rock. Here she utilizes an electronic sound that incorporates elements such as Afrobeat loops and tropical synth for a rich sound. Clams Casino served as producer on several of Ices’ tracks, such as the ethereally warm acoustic/synth piece “Thousand Eyes” and the golden-sounding Far East-inspired “Higher.”
