The Silence
Hark the Silence
(Drag City)
The Silence is a five-piece psychedelic/progressive/acid rock band featuring Masaki Batoh and Kazuo Ogino of Ghost (the Tokyo experimental band that lasted from 1984 to 2014.) On this second release (they’ve also released a follow-up to this), the band showcases a head-spinning, multi-layered journey that needs more than one listen to fully appreciate. They go all out with not only guitars, bass, drums, synth and vocals, but more unorthodox instruments such as timpani, banjo and even baritone saxophone for a particularly unique experience. “Ancient Wind Part 3” is a particularly chaotic whirlwind of a track, with another favorite being a breezy, somewhat poppy cover of “Little Red Record Company” by indie-folk/dream-pop duo Damon & Naomi (who became friends with Ghost after Batoh wrote a song for them in 1998.)
