Temples
Volcano
(Fat Possum)
On their first album Sun Structures, British band Temples created a melodic sound that captured the trippy appeal of traditional psychedelic pop. This sophomore album goes in a new direction with layers of luminous synth, with the result being a huge, neo-psychedelic wall of music that sounds like it could fill arenas (including my favorite tracks “Born into the Sunset” and “Strange or Be Forgotten”).

East India Youth
Culture of Volume
(XL)
Currently going by his real name William Doyle, East India Youth was the moniker of this British-born electronic musician for four years (inspired by the East India Docks area of East London, where he claimed to feel “creatively reborn”.) Indeed, his work can be described as lush synthpop with refreshing ambient and experimental arrangements of electronics, strings, vocals and beats. His range of work includes the elaborate, upbeat techno of the nearly seven-minute “Hearts That Never” and the hypnotically soothing, dream-like chill-out “Carousel”.
