Peter Mulvey w/ Matt The Electrician

INFO: Peter Mulvey is a veteran singer and songwriter from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He began his career on the streets of Dublin, Ireland, as a busker, and from there moved on to performing in the subways and streets of Boston, Massachusetts. This led to his first record deal and a leap to full-time national and international touring, beginning in the early Nineties.
Mulvey is an iconoclast within the singer/songwriter world. Restless and inventive, he has made seventeen records, spanning rock and roll, folk, Jazz, spoken word, and Americana. A long-standing gig at the National Youth Science Camp led to a spoken word piece, “Vlad the Astrophysicist”, which became a TEDx talk, and then an illustrated book. In 2007 he began an annual late summer tour by bicycle instead of by car and airplane- the 10th annual bicycle tour will happen this September. He has taught songwriting and guitar workshops at the Swannanoa Gathering and at various folk festivals across the U.S.
In 2015, “Take Down Your Flag”, his song about the victims of the shooting at the AME Emanuel Church in Charleston, reached 200,000 people when many songwriters, including Ani DiFranco, Anais Mitchell, Keb’ Mo, Paula Cole, & Jeff Daniels, re-wrote the middle verse and posted their own videos of the song. This movement led to an online benefit concert, and a deepening of the friendship between Mulvey and DiFranco. Early in 2016 DiFranco produced “Are You Listening?”, Peter Mulvey’s 17th record, which will be released March 24th on Righteous Babe Records.
Mulvey continues to tour, playing over a hundred shows a year as he has for the past twenty five years. This is the core of what he does: music, in a room, performed for a live audience.

INFO: Bernice, the project of Toronto-based vocalist/songwriter Robin Dann, blends “melodies reminiscent of artists like Sade with the playful sounds of artists like Deerhoof and Dirty Projectors” (Pigeons & Planes). Dann is a trained vocalist with a Masters in Music from Goldsmiths, University of London, and her band – Thom Gill (keyboards/samples), Felicity Williams (vocals), Phil Melanson (percussion), and Dan Fortin (bass) – features active members of Bahamas, Owen Pallett, Leif Vollebekk, and DIANA.
Following the release of two singles – “St Lucia” and “Don’t Wanna Be European” – Bernice hit the road supporting Martha Wainwright and released Puff, a 5-song EP in June ‘17 to resounding critical acclaim from Pitchfork, NPR, Zane Lowe, and The Fader. Stereogum and Exclaim Magazine named the release as one of the ‘Best EPs of 2017. Puff was produced by Grammy Award-winner Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Lucius) and Matt Smith (Owen Pallett).
Bernice followed the maximalist EP with minimalist sophomore album Puff: In The Air Without A Shape released in May ’18 on Arts & Crafts. Continuing their enigmatic exploration of pop, jazz, and R&B, Bernice’s new album attempts to mimic the playful intimacy of the band’s live show. The album was called “a monument to ephemerality” by the New York Times and received a long-list nomination for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize.

Craig Ferguson “Hobo Fabulous Tour”

INFO: Craig Ferguson entered the world of late night comedy following a diverse and eclectic career that encompasses film, television and the stage. In December 2014, Ferguson concluded his ten-year run as the host of CBS’s “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” which set all-time viewer records, earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination and the 2009 Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting for his interview with Archbishop Desmond Tutu. As the host of “Celebrity Name Game,” Ferguson was awarded the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host two years in a row. This year he was nominated for a third Daytime Emmy Award. As of February 2017, Craig launched his new SiriusXM program “The Craig Ferguson Show” which is broadcast live on Comedy Greats every evening.
In September 2015, Ferguson launched his fourth original stand-up comedy special on EPIX entitled, “Craig Ferguson: Just Being Honest,” which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Comedy Album. The special was filmed at New York City’s Town Hall and focuses on topics spanning from “the deeply meaningless to the profoundly meaningful.” In May 2016, Craig completed The New Deal Tour, a 60-show comedy stand-up tour across North America. Ferguson was last seen in his original History Channel show, “Join or Die,” which featured him and his celebrity friends debating provocative topics with history experts.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Ferguson got his start in the entertainment industry as a drummer for some of the worst punk bands in the U.K., a profession he held for several years. Following his musical stint, he began bartending in a local pub in Glasgow where he was introduced to Michael Boyd, the artistic director of The Tron Theatre in Glasgow, who persuaded Ferguson to give acting a go. After several low paying acting gigs, Ferguson discovered he had a knack for comedy and was soon the star of his own BBC television show, “The Ferguson Theory.” After several stints on the English comedy circuit, Ferguson brought his act to America in 1995 to star with Betty White and Marie Osmond in the short-lived ABC comedy, “Maybe This Time.” After the show ended, ABC decided to add the talented Scotsman to “The Drew Carey Show,” playing Drew Carey’s boss, ‘Nigel Wick,’ from 1996-2003.
Ferguson has also become a huge success on the North American comedy circuit. He has performed to sold out theaters all over the country and sold out Carnegie Hall in October 2010. In October 2012 Craig performed his highly praised stand-up at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall to a sold out audience. Additionally, Craig has three widely acclaimed stand-up comedy specials, “A Wee Bit O’ Revolution”, which premiered on Comedy Central and was released on Home Video in 2009, and “Does This Need To Be Said,” which premiered on EPIX in 2011, aired on Comedy Central and was released on Home Video. In the summer of 2013, Craig released his third comedy album “I’m Here to Help,” garnering him a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album. The stand-up special premiered on Netflix and was later released on DVD.
Ferguson has written the feature films “The Big Tease” and “Saving Grace”. In 2003, he made his directorial debut with “I’ll Be There,” which he also wrote and starred in. “I’ll Be There” went on to receive the Audience Award for Best Film at the Aspen, Dallas, and Valencia film festivals. Craig was also named “best new director” at the Napa Valley Film Festival. Ferguson’s other film credits include, “Niagra Motel,” “Lenny the Wonder Dog,” “Prendimi l’anima,” “Life Without Dick,” “Chain of Fools” and “Born Romantic.” Ferguson was most recently heard on the big screen as he reprised his character ‘Gobber’ in “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” the sequel to the 2010 animated feature, “How to Train Your Dragon.” In 2011 Craig portrayed ‘Owl’ in the highly anticipated Disney classic “Winnie The Pooh.” In the summer of 2012, Craig was heard as the voice of ‘Lord Macintosh’ in Disney’s animated feature, “Brave.”
In February 2008 Ferguson succeeded in becoming a US Citizen, mentioning that this is his home after thirteen years and “my heart is here.” Soon after, Craig had landed himself the biggest date of all; a date with President Bush hosting the White House Correspondents Dinner. Critics raved of his witty and comical deliverance speech to the 3,000 attendees who included political journalists, celebrities, and Washington’s power players. In 2009, Harper Collins published Ferguson’s memoir American On Purpose – a book about why and how late night funnyman Craig Ferguson became an American. The book was listed on the New York Times bestseller list and continues to sell well to date.
Ferguson also serves on the board of the Lollipop Theater Network. The mission of the Lollipop Theater Network is to bring movies that are currently in theatrical release to hospitalized children facing chronic and life threatening illnesses nationwide.

WHY? Plays “Alopecia” w/ Tomberlin

INFO: “I’ll go unknown by torpedo or Crohn’s / Only those evil live to see their own likeness in stone.” It’s the kind of couplet you’d carve into a wall whilst savoring the irony at hand, but when Yoni Wolf spit the line ten years ago he was blissfully, broodily unaware that he and his band WHY? were creating a career-defining album—one so fan-adored that it would go out of print, and so influential that the artpop heroine Lorde herself would lovingly steal the very lyric quoted above. When it dropped in 2008, Alopecia not only marked WHY?’s evolution from a sonically collaged mostly solo project to a live-recorded powerhouse band of badass multi-instrumentalists. It also minted a genre of one: wryly written, poignantly posed, simultaneously swaggering and heart-rending song-rap that jangles like folk, bursts like psych-rock, and sways like chamber pop. To this day, there is no other group in the known universe that sounds or feels like WHY? does on Alopecia. The album’s 2018 reissue cheekily etches that aural likeness into our musical history.
Alopecia, an album as adventurous as it is accessible, and remarkably fluid. To wit, “These Few Presidents” slides between modes, from upbeat and forced-smile bubbly to seething and slowly roiling. “Song of the Sad Assassin” is a tempo-blind rollercoaster of piano, vibes, vocal percussion, guitar, drum, and bass. And “Twenty Eight” spins a feedback-drenched rap beat, something like the Bomb Squad on acid, on a carousel. WHY?’s mind meld is all the more impressive considering they left their jerry-rigged home setup for Minneapolis’ Third Ear studio, in the winter, and added Fog members Andrew Broder and Mark Erickson to the lineup. Over 20 days, the thermometer never cracked zero. There were hot toddies aplenty, Miles Davis records on repeat, and cramped quarters. In this heady, unfamiliar space, Yoni worried it was all for naught. But while recording “Good Friday,” a brutal breakup song, he caught full-body chills. It wasn’t the blizzard outside.
The Alopecia sessions were so successful, in fact, that they spawned two LPs (WHY?’s fourth, Eskimo Snow, arrived 18 months later). This one was finished in Berkeley and when time came to name it, Yoni chose a word that appears nowhere in the lyrics. He’d recently found a hole in his beard which his old art-hop comrade Slug of Atmosphere identified as alopecia. The concept fit: more than on any other WHY? release, Yoni was uncovering his anger, anxiety, and ambition—celebrating his ugly by wearing his lowest of lows like badges of honor, devising characters to exorcise his inner demons, and arriving at begrudging self-affirmation. There’s a line on “Brook & Waxing,” reprised on “By Torpedo or Crohn’s,” that’s become the loudest shout-along moment at WHY? concerts and the most likely quote to find tattooed in the crowd: “While I’m alive I’ll feel alive / And what’s next I guess I’ll know when I’ve gotten there.” Therein lies Alopecia genius: we’ll never get “there,” not in 10 years past or 10 years more, but the beauty is in pushing on.

INFO: It started with four friends. Just three guys and a girl in a studio, each with wildly different personalities and dreams, but all united in their support of each other. Before they knew it, almost by accident, they were recording some of the most powerful material of their careers, moving into a house together, and launching one of the most exciting new names in music: Whatever We Are.
The group’s four members—Gabrielle Ross, Chris “Trippz” Michaud, Joey Castellani, and Ian Biggs—had spent the majority of their careers as solo arts, but the energy when they wrote and recorded together was undeniable, so they embraced the new direction and uprooted their lives to move into a shared house on Long Island where they could make music in their living room-turned-studio-space full time. As a result, these songs represent not only a clean start artistically, but also a fresh new outlook on life. At times calling to mind modern chart toppers like The Black Eyed Peas and Twenty One Pilots, Whatever We Are’s music blurs the boundaries of genre as it melds four distinct voices into a singular whole. The group is a true democracy, with each artist contributing equally to the songs, and it’s built upon a deep foundation of friendship and passionate belief fueled by the unique personalities and backgrounds of each band member.

Tim Reynolds & TR3

INFO: With a musical career spanning more than thirty-five years, guitarist, sonic innovator, and two time Grammy nominee Tim Reynolds is known for his masterful command of melody and timing and for his uncanny ability to improvise on any instrument he touches. Having explored most musical styles, from rock, jazz and blues to classical and reggae, Reynolds’ wide-ranging musical versatility is evident each time he picks up his electric or acoustic guitar. Technically brilliant, yet emotionally honest, Reynolds’ music is inspired and authentic.
It was in the mid 1980s in Charlottesville, VA, when Reynolds founded his breakthrough electric power trio, TR3 (Tim Reynolds Trio), known for their fusion of funk, rock, and jazz. He toured with TR3 during the 1980s and 1990s, using a rotating cast of musicians. It was at this time he befriended Dave Matthews and their ongoing musical collaboration began. Tim eventually decided to relocate to Santa Fe, NM, and pursue a solo career. His musical progression continued throughout his many years on the road as a solo guitar wizard, playing for packed houses and to crowds who quickly determined that Reynolds is one of the most talented and thoughtful musicians on the circuit today.
After a number of years in New Mexico, Reynolds relocated to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 2007. After a chance meeting with two talented musicians, bass player Mick Vaughn and drummer Dan Martier, a few rehearsals later and several stealth appearances throughout North Carolina, Reynolds decided to resurrect the electric TR3 and they’ve been touring ever since. TR3 released their first double live CD, “From SPACE and Beyond” in June 2011. In 2009, their first studio CD “Radiance” was nominated for Home Grown Music Network’s Album of the Year. Electric, funky, operatic, edgy…their show is a mix of updated Reynolds’ classics to wild covers of everything from James Brown, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson and Focus to TR3’s ever-evolving catalogue of new material.

Hatebreed w/ Obituary, Terror, Cro-Mags, Fit For Autopsy

INFO: An institution can be relied on. Its foundations don’t shake due to the winds of change or tides of trends—no matter how volatile, omnipresent, or tenuous.
With steadfast determination, drive, and dedication, Hatebreed cement themselves as one of heavy music’s strongest institutions on their seventh full-length offering and very first for Nuclear Blast worldwide, 2016’s The Concrete Confessional. Since 1994, the Connecticut quintet—Jamey Jasta [vocals], Chris Beattie [bass], Wayne Lozinak [guitar], Frank Novinec [guitar], and Matthew Byrne [drums]—has risen to the ranks of hardcore and heavy metal elite with a GRAMMY® Award nomination, main stage slots on festivals, and countless fans worldwide. 2013’s The Divinity Of Purpose earned their highest entry on the Billboard Top 200, bowing at #17 with impressive first-week sales in excess of 17,000. When it came time to return to the studio after two years on the road, Jasta and his cohorts clung to the bedrock on which their legacy stands firm.
“There’s nothing better than loud amps in the face, cranked up riffs that hit you right in the chest and lyrics that spark a new thought and give you a charge,” he declares. “That’s our musical DNA. We could just be who we are. We don’t need to incorporate whatever the trend is. We can just be Hatebreed. There are some new highlights to the game, but you know it’s us.” The Divinity Of Purpose brought them to new areas of the globe as the headlined festivals in the UK, Finland, Norway, Germany, and Eastern Europe and landed a slot on Ozzfest Japan. They would perform at Poland’s Woodstock in front of 400,000 people. Stateside, the band supported longtime friends Black Label Society in the winter of 2015 and then got the opportunity to be direct support to Slipknot on a Spring 2015 run in between festival appearances at Rock On The Range, Welcome To Rockville, and more as well as Motörhead’s Motörboat with Slayer and Motörhead.
Returning home in the Fall of 2015, they entered the studio with longtime producer Zeuss [Rob Zombie, Soulfly]. Immediately, they channeled the spirit that’s long defined their signature sound. By January, the record was mixed by Josh Wilbur [Megadeth, Lamb Of God] and primed for ignition. “It’s a mirror of both sides of the story whether it’s what you believe in the media or what you actually see,” he explains. “Musically, it came together quickly. It’s about all of the frustrated feelings that come out when I turn on the news. So much of our attention is focused on the wrong areas. People want to one-up each other with better clothes and cars, and it’s all bullshit. Nobody goes to the grave with any of that stuff. It’s not all instant gratification. What exists on the phone and computer isn’t what exists in real life. What is the American Dream anymore?”
The machine gun chug of “Looking Down The Barrel Of Today” proves equally uplifting and undeniable. “I wanted something to get crowds pumped up,” he admits. “So many fans will tell us, ‘Your records help me get through my life.’ I needed to encourage this cyclical power to get up and face the day. You either make the best of today, or you’re done in by it.”
Hatebreed have come a long way from the East Coast’s storied nineties underground scene. Their journey has seen them achieve a 2005 GRAMMY® Award nod in the category of “Best Metal Performance” for “Live For This,” sell over 1.2 million records, and land a #1 debut on Billboard’s DVD Chart with 2009’s Live Dominance.
