Deaf Center / Svarte Greiner Owl Splinters / Twin [Reissue]
(Miasmah)
Formed in Norway in 2003 by longtime friends Erik K Skodvin and Otto A Totland, Deaf Center are an instrumental project that blends modern classical, drone and ambient. Originally released in 2011, their second album Owl Splinters conveys a poignant, emotional and cinematic-sounding journey with its delicate-to-intense blend of pianos and strings (the tenderly morose piano piece “Time Spent” is an easy favorite of mine.) Companion piece Twin (originally a bonus CD and on vinyl for the first time here) is a reimagining of the album by Skodvin under his Svarte Greiner alias: it’s a forty-minute tapestry of immersive, string-based textural drone that makes for some hauntingly beautiful ambience.
