Puce Mary
The Drought
(PAN)
Born in Denmark and based in Los Angeles, experimental musician Frederikke Hoffmeier has been releasing material under the Puce Mary moniker since 2010. Her captivating brand of industrial / noise music has been the subject of numerous releases and bracing, confrontational live performances. On this latest release, Hoffmeier seeks to expand her sound for a grander narrative about self-preservation: seeking regeneration after trauma through collecting one’s thoughts and desires. “To Possess Is To Be In Control”, for example, explores the power struggle between two divided selves, conveyed through repeated poetry and sporadic bursts of harsh noise. “The Size of Our Desires” is fascinating as well, drifting from unsettling sunny/cloudy ambience to ominous swaths of noise and mechanized beats.
