Uniform & The Body
Everything That Dies Someday Comes Back
(Sacred Bones)
Here’s the second collaboration between two duos specializing in harsh, noisy industrial rock and metal: New York City’s Uniform and Providence, Rhode Island’s The Body. Formed by a mutual appreciation for each other’s abrasive style, their alliance brought about the massive and punishing Mental Wounds Not Healing last year. This album continues their innovative mix of industrial, noise, metal and techno, with vocals again consisting of punk snarling (Uniform’s Michael Berdan) and shrill howling (The Body’s Chip King.) Opener “Gallows in Heaven” starts ominously with an approaching rumble and stark, distorted percussion giving way to the metallic sludge-rock that follows. Centerpiece “Penance” is a highlight for me with its driving beat and menacing, post-apocalyptic sounding industrial synth.
