Rainbow Grave No You

This Birmingham, U.K. four-piece includes two veterans of grindcore/hardcore/crust punk: Nicholas Bullen (Napalm Death, Scorn) and John Pickering (Doom, Sore Throat.) For this latest project, they forego their trademark blistering tempos for a slower, punishingly heavy brand of sludge-choked noise-rock in the vein of American acts like Unsane, Cherubs and Kilslug. Extremely dark and misanthropic throughout, the album sets the mood with opener “Ten Million Tons of Shit”, expressing unmitigated disgust toward everything owned by no one in particular (apparently the band likes to dedicate it to entire concert crowds to set a mood.) It’s also interesting to hear a saxophone in a few tracks like “Year Zero”, adding an additional unnerving tone of despair that reminds me of Wolf Eyes.
