BRASS CITY BOSS SOUNDS PRESENTS SUPERTOUCH

Saturday May 7, 2011
Silver City Hall
680 Old Colony Road
Meriden, CT 06451

The return of

Supertouch started in 1985 out of the ashes of the New York hardcore band Death Before Dishonor. They had released a demo and some WNYU tapes but no actual records. When their drummer, Mike of Judge/Youth of Today fame, left the band to pursue other musical interests the rest of them forged ahead. The band got a new drummer and took the name Supertouch after a Bad Brains song. They started out with a song on Revelation Records NYC HC: The Way It Is followed up by a 7″, an LP and one last song on the Anti-Matter comp. They also recorded a song for the movie “Sam” and were the subject of an unofficial documentary. Definitely ahead of their time, Supertouch is thought by many to be one of the most influential bands to develop from the hardcore scene.

Brain Killer Every Actual State Is Corrupt LP
(Deranged Records)

I’ve been trying to snag a copy of this record since it came out last month, but as soon as we open up the boxes, these get bought up almost instantly. Brain Killer is a hardcore band from Boston, MA that plays fast, crusty & extremely noisy (tons of whirling feedback!). Generally for this type of stuff I prefer a 7″ worth of material, but these dudes keep it interesting and varied through out enough where I can’t help but pay close attention. Hopefully you’ll have the privilege of being made deaf by Brain Killer in a basement somewhere soon. (FFO: Gauze, Disclose, Deathreat)
Playing in Hartford soon: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=198471190188258

Delayscape Morse Disco CD
(Anna Logue Records)

This came out late last year on a small import label dedicated to synth music (generally of a more pop variety – though not of the popular radio variety).  It’s a pretty excellent label and I may do a spotlight feature on it in the future.  For now, I’m letting you know about this excellent electro double disc set by Delayscape.  Delayscape lays down thick chunky (yes, the redundancy is necessary) synth lines with generally pulsating beats.  Elektro, even, with a Detroit techno influence.  Think of Legowelt or Drexciya or even DMX Krew. Jam.

Spotlight: Safety Meeting Records (Sampler Download!)

Safety Meeting Records, run by Carlos Wells, is Connecticut’s best resident label. Using the Dischord method of focusing on bands primarily from his area, Carlos has given New Haven’s local music scene, especially, a huge hand up. This label is not genre specific. Their roster includes everything from psychedelic folk to lo-fi garage rock to d-beat hardcore. The actual releases themselves are beautifully packaged vinyl records that also include a CD copy. Safety Meeting has a consistent stream of releases.  What more could you ask for?

If you were lucky enough to get one of our goodie bags on Record Store Day, then you got the new 2011 Safety Meeting Sampler CD. We still have a handful left at the shop, so swing by and grab one.  Here it is also available for stream/download:
