Happy Xmas Everyone Update

17th Of December 2010 Update of New and Key Restocked Items
at Redscroll Records

I might do another mini-update before Christmas, but maybe not.  Since that is the case and since this is now the time for last minute ideas and such I’m including a list of possible ideas.

Quick Xmas Gift Ideas:
Books!  We have the expanded second edition of American Hardcore in stock.  We’ve got For the Love Of Vinyl: The Album Art of Hipgnosis, Touch & Go: The Complete Hardcore Punk Zine, Bossa Nova… the Rise Of Brazilian Music In The 1960s, Kanaval: …The Streets Of Haiti and a bunch of other really great music related books.
If you have a record lover then perhaps they would appreciate one of our vinyl care kits that include a couple brushes and some cleaning fluid.  Plastic outer sleeves to preserve the integrity of your records are always nice as well.
Redscroll Shirts! We have them in size small-xxl.  We also carry a variety of band shirts.
Posters!  We carry a variety of posters of bands (Past Manic Screen Printed Show Posters and glossy band posters).
Noise boxes: We have modified Gristleisms for weirdos (noise and experimental folks who like to play with gadgets, basically – I entirely empathize with this, btw).  We also have the more subtle Buddha Boxes – including (in this update) the latest model, the FM3 Buddha Machine III.

And, of course, Gift Certicates are always available – in any denomination you desire.

Onto the update… Music!

LPs & 12″s (A bunch of last week’s update snuck onto this – I’m leaving it 🙂 )

NYC Punk + Underground Record Fair

NYC Punk + Underground Record Fair
Josh, Brian (Iron Hand), and I (Rick) will be at Southpaw in Brooklyn, NY tomorrow from 10AM until 4:30PM selling (and buying) records.  If you’re in the area or if you have nothing going on then make it out.  The dealer list looks incredible (it is on the Facebook Event Page linked below the flier). Every great dealer in the area that I can think of will be there.
Sean will be at the shop in Wallingford all day – wish him a belated happy birthday (it’s today). The shop’s used section might be a bit slimmer than you might want for the day (we’re bringing 3 tables worth of records) so excuse that.  We’ll bring back what’s left and whatever deals we find at the fair Saturday night and we’ll have it ready for sale on Sunday at the shop.

Holiday Toy Drive

HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE
for children with special needs
We are participating in a local toy drive.  If you’ve been in the store lately you’d have noticed this box up front:

You have until December 18th to bring some joy to a child by dropping off a toy here or at any of the other drop-off locations around New Haven.
(Devil’s Gear Bike Shop, Romeo & Cesare’s, Fuel Coffee, Miya’s Sushi)

“The toys will help children with many different disabilities that include autism, down syndrome, global developmental delays, Hypotonia, and a number of other chromosomal anomalies. (all of the children that are receiving the toys are also in lower socio-economic levels).

There are are a number of toys that are beneficial these include puzzles, nesting cups, blocks, books (simple picture books), cause/effect toys (pop ups, lights/sounds) cars, trucks, dolls. Here are a few links to for ideas: beyondplay.com and funandfunction.com. Toys R Us also is really great at labeling the toys. They have a catalog for differently abled kids.

“The holiday toy drive for children with special needs focuses on children with special needs between the ages of 0-3. Our goal is to collect new and gently used, unwrapped toys during the holiday season. These toys are then distributed just before Christmas to needy children with special needs in our community. We want all children to experience the magic and joy of the holiday season regardless of their abilities or socioeconomic status

Providing the children with toys that are appropriate for their skill level and using them to teach new skills is also very important. Often times the toys needed to practice a skill are financially unavailable to the family, which is why the toy drive is so important in helping to serve as two functions: first as a holiday gift and second as a necessary therapeutic tool.

We consult with a team of professionals who work in the early intervention field to provide the best fit for each child. We just need your help with collecting the toys. Some of the best items to donate include nesting cups, blocks, stacking rings, shape sorters, puzzles, books, cause and effect toys, trucks, dolls, pop beads, lacing beads, yoga balls, and balance toys”
