Latest Redscroll Release = Tape Split by Nothing Israel & The//Moon

NOTHING ISRAEL / THE//MOON

We have a tape out today. It’s a split by 2 friends that we’re happy to have on board.

SPLIT NEWNEW262015 (1) rsr017

Two of Connecticut’s most free spirits separated by a flip of the tape.

Nothing Israel: For fans of time travel and hot sauce.

The//Moon: A soundtrack to walking around at night in a snowstorm. A soundtrack to a sleepless night. A soundtrack to a strange existence. People always tell me I should do soundtracks, but I don’t know about all of that.

Adventures in sound. Non-traditional song structure (read: soundscapes) from two distinct perspectives.

Diverse narrative journeys.

It’s ready! It’s out on Tuesday – June 17th, 2014!

Empty Flowers - The Air You Found LP

[International customers please email us for a shipping quote.]

Empty Flowers “The Air Your Found” LP (First 100 Come With Full CD as well.) $12.98
The CD is available in the shop now via Translation Loss records – who by the way were great to work with on this project and we have more in the works which we’re excited about! Right now, we’re especially excited about putting this record out. It’s an exciting release because not only are we working with a band that includes people we respect and consider friends from up and down the East Coast (members are spread across MA, CT, & PA) and not only because they make great music themselves, but also because this record is a bit of a work of collaboration with lots more great artists of high regard. Each track on this album is a reworking of an Empty Flowers track. The stems of each track were given to the artists to use as they might and they did some impeccable work.

Empty Flowers Back Cover

The tracklist:
SIDE A
1. Car Fires (JK Broadrick Remix – Yes! That’s correct, THE Justin K. Broadrick of Godflesh, Jesu and countless other great acts is on this jam!)
2. I Get To Know Its Name (IcoAclass/Deadverse Remix: Of the hip-hop avant-garde act, Dalek)
3. Resonate (Michael Hill Remix; Mr. Hill currently handles vocal and guitar duties for Relapse Records metal band, Tombs)
SIDE B
4. Quit (James Plotkin Remix; Mr. Plotkin has numerous projects including Atomsmasher and Khanate) [Mr. Plotkin also did the mastering on this release.]
5. Fünf (Theologian Remix; We actually have more in store from Leech too! Friend of the shop, Lee has played here with Theologian and previous project, Love is Nothing. Unfortunately the shop started after Navicon Torture Technologies was put to bed.)
6. Call A Priest (Kevin Hufnagel Remix; Mr. Hufnagel might best be known for his work with Dysrhythmia and currently handles lead guitar duties for Gorguts)

Rebecca Mitchell of Whore Paint helped record some of the original work at Machines With Magnets and her voice can be heard on it as well!

Oh and the artist who designed the sleeve is Brian Azer! He’s worked on Sun Kil Moon / Mark Kozelek and Jesu albums! He rules and the art came out awesome! You should probably just buy this for that alone.

Empty Flowers - Front and Back

This will be available in the store on June 17th and is being distributed wide by a few distributors so definitely ask your local shop if they’ve got it or plan on getting it. If you can’t wait then we’ve got a pre-order button for you (above under the big picture of the album cover)! Please message us about international shipping and we can invoice you depending on where in the world you are (redscroll@gmail.com).

RSR014: Phemale “City Silk” LP now available

We now have RSR014: Phemale “City Silk” LP available for sale!

Mike D. (a.k.a. Phemale) holding his new record!

We (all of us at Redscroll) were stoked when Phemale (Michael Donahue) said he’d release a record with us and we were doubly psyched when he gave us “City Silk.” It is honestly (and honestly prejudicially) my (Rick) most played record of the year. It rules. If you haven’t yet read the Impose article in which Mike describes the narrative behind his music I suggest you do that now (http://www.imposemagazine.com/features/phemale-michael-donahue).

“I was immediately transfixed by Phemale’s peculiar pop music, unbound by genre or pretension… I was obsessed.” – Jane Chardiet (Impose Magazine

In short: Mixed media artist Michael Donahue has been creating music as Phemale (previously Female until changed to avoid confusion with a long time electronic music producer from across the Atlantic Ocean) prolifically and under the radar since 2008.  Pop music with a weird slant and mostly minimal approach.

This track, “Plastination,” appears on “City Silk” as track #5:

Elm Recordings also has a tape out now called “Everything’s Haunted” which Kryssi (of Elm Recordings) describes as the twisted cousin of “City Silk.” It has a similar outer ascetic and inside is “an unsettling soundtrack of intricately arranged sound collage loosely based on the life and times of supermodel Gia Carrangi.” We have some of these for sale as well.

Phemale Everythings Haunted Tape

The LP is out of 150 and the tape is hand numbered out of 75.

So, now that you’re totally into Phemale you can own these things and listen on repeat by clicking below:
