INFO: Throughout history, art rejoices and revels in the wisdom of women.

Within a deck of tarot cards, the High Priestess serves as the guardian of the unconscious. In Greek mythology, the old oracles celebrate the Mother Goddess. William Shakespeare posited portentous prescience in the form of MacBeth’s “Three Witches.” On their sixth full-length album Ritual, In This Moment—Maria Brink [vocals, piano], Chris Howorth [lead guitar], Travis Johnson [bass], Randy Weitzel [rhythm guitar], and Kent Diimel [drums]—unearth a furious and focused feminine fire from a cauldron of jagged heavy metal, hypnotic alternative, and smoky voodoo blues.

 Friday, October 18th
Altın Gün, Snake Oil

 $18 / All Ages / Doors at 7:00PM

 Space Ballroom – Hamden, CT

INFO: Turkish psych folk band Altin Gün are easy to fall in love with. When ATO Records saw them play at King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s Gizzfest 2018 in Australia, we immediately knew we had sign them. The band, which hails from Amsterdam but comes from various backgrounds (Turkish, Indonesian, Dutch) create music that opens doors between traditional Turkish folk songs and psych.

On April 26, 2019, Altin Gün released their sophomore album Gece, which follows their 2017 acclaimed debut record On. With their new effort, the band continue to experiment, opening sonic portals previously unexplored between genres. The traditional folk songs Altin Gün has re-worked for Gece become nearly unrecognizable in their talented hands, as they deftly change time signatures, adding new sounds and layers to each track. The result is a sparkling album that is guaranteed to lift the mood of any room it is played in.

INFO: How many highly successful musical artists do you know that have thrived for 20 years without a radio hit, a big budget video, or major label backing? Moreover, have managed to do high-profile TV appearances, own and operate their own independent label since day one, sell several million albums and continue to expand their fan base across the globe each year. They’ve collaborated with such uniquely famed artists David Byrne, Perry Farrell, The Flaming Lips, Anushka Shankar, Femi Kuti, Seu Jorge, Bebel Gilberto, and been featured on major film soundtracks such as Garden State. They’ve headlined top music festivals, such as Coachella and Lollapalooza, and have influenced a whole generation of electronic producers and DJs. If you add these elements together, you can arrive at only one conclusion: Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, aka: Thievery Corporation.

Lust For Youth w/Underwear, Psychic of Orange, Ross Menze (DJ)

 $13 / All Ages / Doors 7:00PM

 Space Ballroom – Hamden, CT

Pirouetting on decadence, meeting eyes with a dizzy sensation, falling and flying at the same time—Lust for Youth have continually held poise through the most vitalizing of times. Their new album, a self-titled collection of eight songs, is sure-footed where they had earlier feared to tread, and light-headed for a new set of reasons. The album is driven by a dance-pop agenda, hustling its way through upbeat peaks that level out into reflective ballads. While still taking clear cues from a crop of austere synth-pop, Lust for Youth sound brighter than they ever have before, taking tips from some of the flirtiest Eurobeat to aid their new direction.

The Districts w/ waveform

 $15 / All Ages / Doors at 7:00PM

 Space Ballroom – Hamden, CT

It’s not uncommon for musicians to grow and evolve between releases — but even by those standards, the Districts’ Popular Manipulations is stunning. The Pennsylvania-borne band’s third full-length represents an exponential leap in sound and cohesion, an impressive and impassioned burn with a wide scope that threatens to swallow everything else surrounding it. Perhaps it’s a cliché to say so, but while listening, you might find yourself wondering why people don’t make indie rock like this anymore.

SHOW ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Saturday, November 9th
Death Threat w/ Billy Club Sandwich, World Demise, Carried By Six, Nightmare Solution

 $20 ($18 adv)/All Ages/Doors at 6:00 PM

 Space Ballroom – Hamden, CT

INFO: Formed in 1997 out of former Hatebreed members, Death Threat’s hardcore sound lands somewhere between Sick Of It All’s aggressive approach and Napalm Death’s thick sound. 1998 saw the release of their debut album, Last Dayz, on Stillborn Records. Quickly making a name for themselves with their popular live shows, the band traveled the East Coast wich eventually led to them signing with Triple Crown Records. Their next album, Peace & Security, came out in 2000 and was followed by more touring, including a memorable stint with Buried Alive. They returned to the studio in 2001 and by the spring of the next year, they had recorded For God and Government and it was released on Triple Crown Records. Before the dust could settle, they had already left for Europe to play with Agnostic Front and The Distillers to restart their grueling touring lifestyle. The next year, a split 7”/cd with Over My Dead Body led to a co-headling tour between the two artists. After much touring, the band recorded Now Here Fast in 2004, and followed up with Lost At Sea in 2009 on Reaper Records, and a split 12” with Rude Awakening in 2012 on BBB Records. Death Threat is still active after over 20 years, and a definite staple in the hardcore/punk scene. Death Threat is doing very limited anniversary performances with the lineup from the first record, Last Dayz, through 2019.

Tuesday, December 10th
Pixies

 $45-$65/All Ages/Doors at 7:00 PM

College Street Music Hall – New Haven, CT

INFO: While Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having blazed the trail for artists from Nirvana to Radiohead to Pearl Jam.  Today, a whole new generation of music fans are discovering the band’s iconic “loudquietloud” signature sound. After five genre-defining studio albums — including the now-Platinum-certified Doolittle – Pixies disbanded in 1993, and then launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds across the globe for 15 years, a far longer period of time than they were a band originally. But writing, recording and releasing new music was something that the band had been wanting to do for a long time, so they secretly booked studio time in Wales for the fall of 2012. Six days into the recording, founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band; Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made the decision to carry on, finishing and releasing the band’s first studio album in more than two decades, 2014’s Indie Cindy. Also wanting to play live, the three began working with a number of touring bassists, including former A Perfect Circle bassist, Paz Lenchantin who came out on the road with the band in 2014. The band welcomed her as Pixies’ permanent bassist in 2016.

College Street Music Hall – New Haven, CT

INFO: As the story goes, RATT helped pioneer Hollywood’s legendary Sunset Strip sound and scene in the 1980’s. Created by lead singer songwriter Stephen Pearcy 1982. Pearcy regrouped with friend Robbin Crosby (also from San Diego) then changed the name of his band to RATT. The band rehearsed and played the clubs in and around L.A. for over a year. They soon recorded and released their own six song E.P. RATT in 1983. Their single, “You Think Your Tough”, (Pearcy/Crosby) the song became a staple on local L.A. radio stations KMET and KLOS. RATT EP sold well over 100,000 copies. RATT was a headliner and selling out local shows. They found themselves opening a show for ZZ Top. The band was called back onstage. RATT was on a roll. Signed to Atlantic Records in 1984 the band’s debut album “Out of the Cellar” (Warren De Martini, Stephen Pearcy, Bobby Blotzer, Robbin Crosby and Juan Croucier) went over 3x Platinum in 1984 behind the hit single “Round & Round”, “Back for More” and “Wanted Man”. RATT would tour with Billy Squire and Ozzy Osbourne before going on to headline their own arena tours around the globe. World infestation had begun. Since 1983 to present the band has sold in excess of (15) million records in the US alone. Their first (4) records went Platinum plus and the arenas concerts were selling out. RATT released (2) records, Collage in 1997 and RATT 1999 before their latest “Infestation in 2010”. They also released the Best of CD Tell the World: The Very Best of Ratt and their 3rd long form DVD, RATT Videos from the Cellar: The Atlantic Years. Black Violin

 $25-$65/All Ages/Doors at 7:00PM

College Street Music Hall – New Haven, CT

INFO: “We had a wall that we wrote stuff on,” says Wil Baptiste, describing the process that led to Black Violin’s new album, Take the Stairs. “We had all the ideas about what story we were going to convey. And it kept coming back to the idea of hope—songs that spoke about going against the grain, carrying through struggle, being optimistic. We wanted to say, ‘it’s tough now, but hang in there.’ ” Much like the ways their instruments interact on stage, Wil’s creative collaborator Kev Marcus echoes this theme, and then expands it. “Hope is the thread that keeps this thing together, it’s the heartbeat of this album,” he says. “But then a lot of tentacles went different ways—the song ‘Impossible is Possible’ is about challenging people. So it went different directions from just being hopeful, we took it a little further.”
