RSR PC 091 Gun to God’s Head: Del, Kane & Brandon

Gun to God’s Head is a fairly new local metalcore band. Members who joined us on the podcast this month are Del (frontwoman/vocalist), Kane (also notably a member of current very active band Vomit Forth), and Brandon (who plays in so many bands he can’t name them off the top of his head, ha! We might’ve put him on the spot in this episode).

Kane, Del & Brandon

This episode could very much serve as a primer to metalcore (and shoegaze and some other off-shoot inspirations) through the filter of 3 members of Gun to God’s Head. I felt that so much that I announced during the show that I would make a playlist. So I did. Here it is. Definitely listen to the show and then skim through this playlist and take in the stuff that may be new to you or you want to check out more deeply. Lots of bands mentioned in this show.

Check the show out. It’s a fun one!

RSR PC 090 Eric & Shari from The Cellar on Treadwell

Shari & Eric joined us on the podcast this month. They are 2/3 of the owners (Pete had to run the bar at the time of recording) of The Cellar on Treadwell – a venue in Hamden, CT that has a bit of history (with a few different names in the past).

We open, as usual, with what we’re listening to and move on to how The Cellar on Treadwell became a thing and the struggles of opening just before a pandemic hit and now striving with a fairly full schedule full of local and touring acts.

Jake & Drew from PulsR stopped by! We talk about music! We talk about PulsR. We talk about other bands they’re in. We talk about various venues in CT including their adopted home base, the Shop in Hamden.

We stay pretty on topic with music and the band. What a treat!

Chop Chop Chop Chop Chop Chop Chop “Become Nothing / We Live As Ghosts” LP

https://chop7times.bandcamp.com/album/become-nothing

One man New Haven noisegrind band CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP (aka: Chopx7 or Chop7times) has been honing his craft for five years, tearing a path up and down the East coast in the process. His newest offering, Become Nothing is his most focused work yet.

A unique blend of noisecore and powerviolence all created with digitally programmed drums and bass makes for a punishing experience. Gone are the interludes and samples that occupied the space between songs on previous releases, leaving room for a heavier emphasis on the slow and sludgy side of his sound. Make no mistake though, he still gets up to absolutely blistering speeds as well. All of this with a lyrical focus on the erosion of one’s identity due to outside forces.

Since the album comes in at just around 17 minutes, it is pressed in full on one side of the record with his previous album, We Live as Ghosts (previously only available on an out-of-print cassette) occupying the B side; his most popular release to date, this is the first time that it will be available on wax.

FOR FANS OF: Man Is the Bastard / Bastard Noise, Insect Warfare, The Gerogerigegege, Suppression
