Sunn O))) is an American drone metal/experimental band based in New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA and formed in 1998. The band’s core members consist of Stephen O’Malley (Khanate, Burning Witch, SARIN, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine, Lotus Eaters, Ginnungagap, Thorr’s Hammer, Fungal Hex, KTL, Æthenor, Gravetemple) and Greg Anderson (Goatsnake, Thorr’s Hammer, Burning Witch, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine, Brotherhood, Engine Kid, False Liberty, Burial Chamber Trio, Ascend). The band was formed as a tribute of sorts to Earth, another very heavy band noted as the pioneers of drone metal. G. Stuart Dahlquist currently of Asva and ex-Burning Witch performed bass on The Grimmrobe Demos and ØØ Void.

Dead In The Dirt
Dead in the Dirt was formed by guitarist Blake Connally (ex final expression, me and him call it us) in Dec. 2008. This project did not see much progress occur in the first two years until the addition of drummer Hank Pratt (foundation, daymark, skull kingdom). Bo Orr (Mosaic) would then join on bass and provide vocals as well. Their debut release “Vold”was self released in summer 2010. Their follow up release was a Tour EP for the band’s first west coast tour with Foundation. Their third release will be a 10 song 7” released by Southern Lord Recordings in September 2011.

Dead in the Dirt also played “here” (at the secret location near Redscroll) last September – it was a powerfully loud and fast good time.

Rick will also be playing records between bands (fun fact: Rick booked the first sunnO))) show with Manic Productions). Incidental music for talking over and making conversation about that is relevant in some way to the bands playing will be played (read that clunky sentence 5x fast).

Club INT is a new (a revitalized Sports Palace) club in New Britain and is very promising for the future of live music in CT.  The sound system is impressive and I know that Manic is bringing even more than what they already have there to accommodate sunnO)))’s requests completely! Here’s a shot of its insides with As I Lay Dying playing:

The Redscroll mobile distro will be making a rare appearance here.  It may be the only one of the year! We’ll be bringing plenty of metal (very focused selection), but if you want something specific brought to this please let us know ( is the best way).

This is a great spot and this event is another great opportunity to check it out. Dan Greene’s art will still be up and we have records for sale here. It’s an all ages venue and they serve refreshments.  Oh, and bands!

What do you have to do to win a pair of tickets to this show?
Here’s a hint:

So, just come into the store and show us your patented mosh move (don’t knock into anything or we’ll have to disqualify you >:|) and the first great move we see will get the passes (if you come in and half-ass it we’ll wait for the next person to come in and demonstrate their style.).

Give-Away: Skatalites at The Space June 20th

Give-Away: Skatalites at The Space June 20th

 Wednesday, June 20th
$18 ($15 In Advance), 7pm doors
The Space (Hamden, CT)
If you’re unfamiliar with the Skatalites (wait, really?) then please feel free to visit this link with their history (and the history of ska, basically).
So, let’s get to it. I have one pair of passes to share.  You want to go to this show and for some reason you haven’t bought a ticket yet and you have a friend/date/other that will go with you in the same predicament. Step 1. Come to the store. This one is not an email contest. Step 2.Draw a checkered pattern on a piece of paper with your full name on it (and either a phone number or email address to contact you). We’ll collect checkered entries until Friday, June 1st at 5PM and announce the winner in our weekly update (as well as contacting said person directly).  You’ll still have time to buy a ticket if you don’t win that way (tickets are available at The Space or online through their website). You’ll still have fun!
