The Stargazer Lilies We Are The Dreamers
The Stargazer Lilies We Are The Dreamers 300x300
(Graveface)
I had no idea what this northern Pennsylvania band sounded like before I saw them open for Black Moth Super Rainbow in 2012: once they began, I immediately fell in love with their raw-yet-beautiful take on shoegaze/dream-pop. The Stargazer Lilies’ debut full-length delivered on my memories, with ex-Soundpool members John Cep and Kim Field (supported by live drummers Johnny Lancia and EJ DeCoske) playing a truly intoxicating variety of nebulous, intimate indie-rock awash in pretty distortion that should please fans of My Bloody Valentine. The themes range from yearning for gorgeous paradise (“Del Rey Mar,” “Endless Days”) to poetic ruminations on the melancholy passage of time and life (“Undone,” “Sad Colored Tears.”)

Nuclear Spring Nuclear Spring
Nuclear Spring Nuclear Spring EP 200x200
(Hysteria)
This six-song 12-inch EP serves as the first “proper” release from this NYC garage-punk band. It signals a promising future, showcasing that Nuclear Spring understands just how to capture the ‘80s anarcho sound. Vocalist-guitarists Colman and Lauren bring out the fury as they shout about dealing with a world that tells you to keep your mouth shut (“Chatter,”) doesn’t care about you (“You Tie The Rope”) and wants you to believe in the illusion of traditionalism (“Mos Maiorum.”) The music is great as well, with the chugging guitars sounding both appropriately harsh and incredibly catchy.
