Here’s the third record from an innovative and infectious indie-pop project by New England native Merrill Garbus. Backed by bassist Nate Brenner, Garbus provides the electrified, nothing-held-back vocals, engaging ukulele and irresistibly dance-able worldbeat percussion that she creates and loops on the spot when performing live. It’s impossible for me to avoid getting caught up in the rhythm of first single “Water Fountain,” with a thriving beat and bassline that pretty much begs to be clapped and sung along to. The more cooled-down “Wait For A Minute” manages to be catchy as well, with truly soulful vocals delivering pessimistic subject matter.
