Arthur Dreams and Images [Reissue]
Arthur Dreams and Images(Light in the Attic)
Arthur Lee Harper dreamed of making it big with his delicate brand of psychedelic folk music, moving from Florida to California and living meagerly in a YMCA with two other poets. He was signed to Lee Hazlewood’s LHI Records in 1967, and with the help of musician and arranger Don Randi “adding color” with baroque instruments including strings and woodwinds, the songs’ psychedelic and enchanted-sounding nature came into fruition. Lyrical themes include love being both present (“Valentine Grey”) and absent (“A Friend of Mine”) as well as what sounds like text from a fantasy novel (“Pandora”). Though Arthur never reached the recognition he hoped for in his lifetime (releasing one more album before becoming a rocket engineer and teacher,) this reissue provides a rich time capsule from that bygone era (and now expanded with three unreleased bonus tracks.)
