The Stargazer Lilies Door to the Sun
(Graveface)
The second record from this northeast Pennsylvanian shoegaze band packs an even stronger psychedelic dream-pop punch than before, sounding big and ethereal enough to touch the sky. They do a great job of pulling off a massive ambient/post-rock soundscape with high-soaring, reverb-soaked guitar and crashing drums while also putting effort toward appealing melodies. Some of my favorite tracks are “Golden Key”, “Personal Autumn” and “Bathed in Blue” for their lyrics full of stunningly beautiful imagery.

Davila 666 Pocos Años, Muchos Daños
(Burger)
This Puerto Rican band’s sound encompasses garage punk, rock and roll and psychedelia, sounding like a refreshing amalgam of The Rolling Stones, Ramones and the Jesus & Mary Chain. This release is a double-LP that compiles various tracks from half a decade of out-of-print singles and EPs. All of the songs are performed in their native tongue of Spanish, which results in a more natural sound (one track is a very faithful cover of The Rolling Stones’ “She’s a Rainbow” as “Borrando El Negro”.)
