The Mystery Lights The Mystery Lights
(Wick)
This Brooklyn garage-psych band was selected as the first to represent new label Wick (a rock-based imprint of soul label Daptone) and their self-titled full-length debut shows a lot of promise. Their fuzzy rock-and-roll sounds straight out of the 60s or 70s, perfectly capturing a gritty style reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix or The Doors with stomping beats, twanging guitars and old-school keyboards. One catchy highlight is “Too Many Girls” (a single that was the first release from both The Mystery Lights and the label) about the not-exactly-problematic situation of having too many girls living in one’s home.

From the Depths From the Depths [Reissue]
(Hells Headbangers)
From the Depths was a Cleveland-spawned “blackened death or deathened black” metal band that existed from 1994 to 2000, with one member being ex-Blood of Christ and current Shed the Skin guitarist Matt Sorg. This is the first vinyl pressing of their self-titled debut, which successfully evokes a foreboding atmosphere with heavily distorted guitar, primitive synth and vocals that range from spoken-word chants to Gollum-like shrieks.
