Stone Jack Jones Love & Torture

(Western Vinyl)
Nashville-based singer-songwriter Stone Jack Jones describes his style as “ambient folk”, with him and backing musicians utilizing a blend of both traditional instruments and various less-common ones such as toy piano, autoharp and found tape. The resulting creates a smoky, atmospheric sound that’s reminiscent of his original home in Appalachia (he’s originally from West Virginia, where he decided not to continue his family’s coal-mining lineage after he was discharged from Vietnam War service due to epilepsy.) “Disappear” is a fascinating track, creating a mood that manages to be both warm and eerie (one of the credits for the song is listed as “ghost” providing vocals.)
