Rob Crow is known for being the lead vocalist and/or guitarist in numerous bands (the indie rock-based Pinback is probably the best-known); in this heavy metal project (formed in 2005) he takes the name “Lord Phallus”. Despite these eccentric aesthetics that suggest Gwar-style shock rock, however, the music here more closely resembles classic metal mixed with elements of progressive, stoner, doom, math rock and more. One highlight is the catchy “Your Watch”, with the unusual topic of simply wanting to find a place to lie down and sleep. “World is Moving” is probably the “prettiest” song, taking a break from heaviness to show off mellow vocals and a shimmering guitar melody.
