All Your Sisters Uncomfortable Skin
(Flenser)
This San Francisco-based duo (started as a solo project but later expanded) combines post-punk, darkwave, industrial and noise rock elements to create bleak-but-catchy songs with atmospheric guitars and marching drum machine beats reminiscent of the 80s. After the ominous, mechanical ambient opener “Nothing is Sacred” sets the mood, the rest of the album is primarily based around cold and dark (but accessible) industrial post-punk coupled with founding member Jordan Morrison’s sorrowful vocals (he drew inspiration from his mind-scarring days of working as an EMT.) “Remains” is my favorite track with its expansive, uptempo guitar sound that seems to reach into the distance forever.

Sohn Tremors
(4AD)
Sohn is the stage name for London-born (and currently Vienna-based) singer-songwriter-producer Christopher Michael Taylor, whose music combines electronic, ambient and R&B elements (he’s also remixed songs for artists such as Lana Del Rey and The Weeknd.) His versatile, soulful voice serves as the driving force for his innovative and hypnotic electronic sounds, created with manipulated loops of both synth and vocals (he’s also recently released the follow-up album Rennen.)
