Arca Arca
(XL)
This is the third studio album from this Venezuelan electronic producer (real name: Alejandro Ghersi), showcasing a daring, unorthodox mix of experimental and IDM sounds that needs more than one listen to fully appreciate. It’s his first album to feature his own lead vocals, inspired by his friend and collaborator Björk: his operatic and angular voice is an excellent match for his ever-morphing, haunting electronic instrumentation.

Michael Nau Mowing
(Suicide Squeeze)
Best known as the frontman for Cotton Jones (a Cumberland, Maryland-based psychedelic indie-folk four-piece that also features his wife on vocals), Michael Nau continues his relaxing, introspective and primarily acoustic-based sound on this album culled from unreleased song ideas for the aforementioned band (he’s also released the follow-up Some Twist.) Some of my favorite tracks include the friendly and easygoing acoustic opener “While You Stand” and the mellow dream-like and tropical-tinged “Your Jewel”.
