Quentin Sirjacq
Far Islands and Near Places
(Karaoke Kalk)
Paris-born pianist and composer Quentin Sirjacq creates emotive, beautiful pieces that combine electronics with percussion for a neoclassical, downtempo sound. Having studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague and music composition at Mill College, Sirjacq utilizes the instrument skillfully at the core of these delicate and lively compositions that could score a sophisticated and emotion-driven film. In addition, he’s backed by Arnayd Lassus’ marimba, vibraphone and glockenspiel to flesh out the sonic palette.

Robert Francis & The Night
Tide Heaven
(Aeronaut)
Written during a time of uncertainty and unemployment in his young life, this album from indie-folk singer-songwriter-guitarist Robert Francis and backing band The Night Tide shows a wide range of emotions, drifting through Americana. The high-energy saxophone-rocker “Baby Was the Devil” and the hypnotic “Love Is A Chemical”, for example, flow together for a poignant 80s sound with lyrics recounting the irresistible high that love brings. The hazy, dream-like acoustic “Blue” and “Hotter Than Our Souls” stand out as well, written while Francis was using painkillers while recovering from a surfing accident.
