Okkultokrati
Raspberry Dawn
(Southern Lord)
Citing Black Flag and Black Sabbath as influences, Okkultokrati is an Oslo, Norway-based band whose sound blends post-punk, metal, glam and space rock. On this fourth full-length, they present a relentless lo-fi sound baked in space-dust-caked synth with chugging guitars and fittingly brash, echoing vocals. Raging opener “World Peace” sets the tone with a cosmic D-beat vibe, while “Leave and Be Gone” is a bristling coldwave/darkwave crawl. “Ocular Violence” is one of the most well rounded songs, building an emotional synth-rock tapestry before seamlessly segueing into fast-paced hardcore for its finale.
