Beak>
>>>
(Temporary Residence Ltd.)
Consisting of Portishead instrumentalist Geoff Barrow, Robert Plant bassist Billy Fuller and sole Moon Gangs member Will Young, Bristol-based band Beak> play eerie, minimalist krautrock that bides a menacing, desolate tone. “Abbots Leigh” (named after a small village and parish in Bristol) is easily the most ominous track, kicking off with frightful screeches and harsh church organ before settling into a calmer and engaging mood. They end the album with “When We Fall”: a starkly beautiful, autumnal-sounding synth-folk song with an unmistakable 70s-sounding aesthetic that shines with the group’s vocals.
