Blanck Mass Animated Violence Mild
(Sacred Bones)
One of the founding members of drone duo Fuck Buttons, Benjamin John Powers has been creating his personal experimental brand of ambient/noise/techno under the Blanck Mass moniker since 2011. For this fourth album (developed throughout last year), Powers spent time “honing craft, self-discovery and grief” by exploring both his own losses and humanity’s loss by being endlessly seduced by consumerism. Fitting for an album titled after a video game content descriptor, the music packs a retro-influenced electronic punch: the hyper-pumped-up “Death Drop” feels like you’re about to go toe-to-toe with ferocious warriors in a polygonal world. “Love Is A Parasite” is another easy standout, incorporating EDM influences with the pulsing and blaring electronics for an uplifting experience.
