Get Yer Body Next Ta Mine [Reissue]
(Castle Face)
Coachwhips Get Yer Body Next Ta Mine
If Lightning Bolt got into a more traditional garage/blues-rock mood and expanded to a three-piece, they might sound like this San Francisco band did. Originally released in 2002, Coachwhips’ second record is fourteen quick-and-to-the-point tracks (most don’t exceed the two-minute mark) that sound perfect for a raucous night of partying (well, minus the ensuing hangover.) It’s a raw, distortion-rich slab of rock mating catchy melodies with uninhibited lo-fi (it’s not surprising considering that vocalist/guitarist John Dwyer’s other bands include Thee Oh Sees, Pink and Brown, Burmese and The Hospitals.)

Tourist Patterns EP
For this EP, London producer/musician William Phillips showcases his minimalist, textural electronic house music that builds into lively, opulent club numbers. The infectiously spirited title track packs a wallop of soul thanks to guest vocalist Lianne La Havas, easily filling the room with her passionate presence. The other guest vocalist also happens to be a British soul singer: Will Heard isn’t shy about exposing his experienced-sounding emotion on “I Can’t Keep Up.”
