Juan Wauters N.A.P.: North American Poetry

After moving from Uruguay to live with his immigrant-of-two-years father in Queens, Wauters used music as a tool to cope with loneliness. The result is this record of twelve spirited and personal acoustic tunes, recorded from 2010 to 2012. His laid-back, catchy songs draw inspiration from all different aspects of his life, whether it’s being a big dreamer trying to finding oneself or simply drifting through the mundane. Some of my favorites are the very sunny surf-rock number “Sanity Or Not” and the intricately played “Water,” laden with introspection (“What am I doing now in this niche? Do I belong? Who is it that I am?”)
