The Pop Group Citizen Zombie
the_pop_group_citizen_zombie-400x379
(Freaks R Us)
Despite that their original incarnation only lasted from 1977 to 81, Bristol, England post-punk band The Pop Group’s unique style (including elements of dub, funk and jazz) managed to influence artists such as Thurston Moore, Nine Inch Nails and St. Vincent. This is The Pop Group’s first new album in thirty-five years, sounding like a new funky, dystopian rock movement complete with frazzled, shouted lyrics (the opening title track refers to the general public being brainwashed drones.) The spoken-word rant “Nations” provides a good summary of themes such as consumerism and “the zombification of society”.
