Radiohead A Moon Shaped Pool (XL)
Since I’ve been following Radiohead since I was in high school (the Hail to the Thief era), I was excited to see how they’d evolve their brand of alternative/experimental/art-rock once more on their latest album. As it turns out, I enjoy A Moon Shaped Pool more than previous effort The King of Limbs for a few reasons. For example, I find the songs more varied and memorable, such as the gripping orchestral rock of “Burn the Witch” and the unsettling slow-burning tension of “Full Stop”. I also enjoy the abundance of piano-based songs, including “Daydreaming”, “Decks Dark” and “True Love Waits” (the last of which dates back to 1995 and is finally getting the studio treatment, swapping its acoustic live sound for an engrossing ambient arrangement.)
