7th Of June 2013 Update of New and Key Restocked Items + Reviews
at Redscroll Records

We are still awaiting a restock of the Daft Punk “Random Access Memories” LPs. We’ll let you know when we have more. I know many stores still haven’t gotten their first batch yet so let’s cross our fingers for this coming week.

You might also notice that I’m continuing to slowly take inventory of our left over RSD13 items. And I’m so zany that I didn’t alphabetize the sections where we got a small amount of titles. Wacky.

Coliseum Sister Faith

(Temporary Residence Ltd.)
Since forming a decade ago and going through several lineup changes, this Louisville trio has progressed from blistering hardcore to a more melodic (but still heavily rocking) alt-rock sound. Coliseum also incorporate elements of sludge and stoner metal, complete with desert rock that makes me imagine Queens of the Stone Age if they utilized a driving energy and vocal style similar to that of The Bronx. They do a great job of exploring styles from traditionally chugging metal (“Under The Blood Of The Moon”) to the storming riff-based “Black Magic Punks” (complete with whispers from just one of the album’s guest musicians: Boris singer/guitarist Wata.) One of my favorites is “Fuzzbang,” closing the album with an unexpectedly fun and infectious stoner/sludge sound (comparable to that of Torche) that melts into an almost shoegaze-style blur toward the end.

Where We Live

In lieu of a review from me, Rick, today I’m going to direct you to the podcast of Where We Live (WNPR, Hartford) that I appeared on today with Anthony of The Needle Drop. Check it out. We talk about a lot of new music (though we had so much more in our back pockets – you can only fit so much into an hour).

As ever, if you’re viewing from a non-drivable distance please check what we have for sale (these titles and more) at http://www.discogs.com/seller/Redscroll

Colin McEnroe Show and More

Today’s Colin McEnroe Show (on 90.5 FM WNPR) was on the subject of Record Stores.
The show’s in-studio guests were Malcolm Tent (Trash American Style, Ultrabunny, WNHU Radio), Brendan Toller (Documentarian, I Need That Record), and Doug & Mary (Replay Records).  Dan (Mystic Discs) called in and so did Josh (Redscroll!) and so did a few fans of vinyl.
If you didn’t get a chance to hear it live, do not fret, it is available here:

Malcolm Tent (http://www.malcolmtent.net/) will also be performing live here at the shop on Record Store Day (Saturday) at 6PM.  He’ll be bringing his sparkly blue acoustic guitar and reveling listeners in song. It’s actually his second stop of the day – his first will be at 3PM in Brookfield at Gerosa Records.

And on Sunday, at 4PM on the campus of Wesleyan University Josh, Malcolm, myself (Rick) and others will join in a viewing and discussion of the film I Need That Record.
Information is also up on the WESU FM website here: http://wesufm.org/

Ben Michael –  General Manager Of WESU
You might not know this, but I (Rick) have been involved with community radio for a long freaking time.  Monday through Friday I get up and go to WESU in Middletown (Wesleyan University’s community radio station) and set up the day’s automated schedule.  I’m the only part time employee while Ben (pictured above) is the only full-time employee.  The rest of our staff is all volunteer (as were Ben and I before being put into our current positions) and they do a great job.

Recently (as of a couple weeks ago) WESU made the jump to 6,000 watts of broadcasting power!  It’s quite the jump from its previous power of 1500 watts (though there was a brief interim power output of 3,000 watts).  Listen to the 88.1 FM frequency and let us know where you tune in from by emailing upgrade@wesufm.org.

To check out the full schedule and / or listen online you can visit the website here: http://wesufm.org/.  The schedule includes our friend Anthony’s show, the Needle Drop, and our friend DJ Lokash’s show, Bassment Beats. It includes some other great syndicated shows of the musical and public affairs variety as well (seriously, just go check out the website and full schedule).

The last thing on this subject I want to mention is ME ME ME!  I am returning to the air waves after an absence of a couple years.  I will be doing a very late night show so if you are up at 2AM on every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month.  Check the blog about the show here: http://nothingunderthesun.tumblr.com/.  After it airs, I post the show up on the blog too (if you don’t have to be awake at that time).

There’s also, in general, a ton of great programming on the left hand side of the dial on the radio.  Listen to the radio from time to time and even on the regular!  RADIO RADIO RADIO!
