ust got the latest Swans album in (3LP or 2CD+DVD). This is the title track; an 18 minute plus journey in sonic space. (We also got the Why? EP 12″s and Pallbearer LPs in today – among other things.)

WHY? – “A Sky For Shoeing Horses Under” from anticon. on Vimeo.

Just got some copies of the new Why? EP in. I like it. This is off the Alopecia LP which is my favorite. Hip-Hop Freak Folk. (Sean)

dead in the dirt is opening for Sunn O))) tomorrow night. They’re one of the many recent crusty hardcore additions to the Southern Lord roster. I set up a show for DITD the last time they rolled through CT and they ruled. How could we not become fast friends with dudes who cover LEFT FOR DEAD then hang out for hours talking about DEATH IN JUNE & 100 DEMONS?

Happy Labor day! If you have today off and need something to do you should watch the somewhat recent documentary on Phil Ochs (I believe it’s available to stream in a variety of places). Here’s one of my favorites of his. (Rick)

We’ve got the new Cat Power Sun (Deluxe and regular LP as well as CD – on Matador Records) in the store today. Here’s a little teaser directed by Chan Marshall herself.

Smoothed out jazz hop from the mid 90s. The album got the reissue treatment in a few ways recently. Most recently we got the instrumentals in. So nice. (Rick)

These Western-Mass./CT boys have been doing pretty well with the grunge-y garage melodic rock and roll (RIYL: Dino Jr.). This video also features their friend from home (CT’s own Phemale as a mummy). We’ve got this jam on the cassette format currently.

Now that the Converge / Torche tour dates have been officially announced, we can talk freely about how awesome it is that they’ll be stopping for a gig in New Britain. Torche is a Florida based stoner metal band that is more on the yellow-smiley-face-have-a-nice-day side of the spectrum then the worship-satan-through-reefer-smoking types. Check out this video for “Across The Shields.” (Josh)

LE RÉVÉLATEUR / DATA DAZE from Sabrina Ratté on Vimeo.

Le Révélateur (Roger Tellier-Craig’s moniker; he left Godspeed You! Black Emperor in 2004) has a release on NNA Tapes that we recently got in. This video is a pretty straightforward visual representation of the sounds. If you are prone to seizures you may want to just hit play and minimize the window (or click on a different tab; y’know, technology). (Rick)

A friend of mine just traded in a stack of cool hardcore 7″s, including the Magrudergrind “Owned” 7″ on blue. Easily one of the top current bands in the genre. For 10 years now, this 3 piece powerviolence band from DC has been grinding all around the world. Check out this video for “Burden” which is comprised of live footage from Europe.(Josh)

We forgot to put a video up Saturday because we were too busy being stoked on Quicksand so I’ll post the following and then another for today. Here’s Saturday’s set.

Weirdos who love hip-hop are generally the kind of folks I ride with. This 7″ came out a little while ago and reminded me just how true that is. Get weird/stay weird. (Rick)

Ipsissimus is the finest black metal outfit to ever slither from Connecticut’s fertile womb. Currently on a hiatus while their drummer is studying ancient scrolls abroad. We are very proud to have been able to release a live tape by them (of which we still have a small handful) entitled, “GoatCultRites” before they went on to Metal Blade.

This holiday weekend Brass City Boss Sounds is bringing a bunch of heavy hitting legends to CT for their 3 day event, 2000 Tons Of TNT FEST. For me personally, Negative Approach is the band I’d want to check out the most. Here they are just a couple years ago, old? sure, but still raging! (Josh)

The Devil’s Blood was the most trance inducing live band I saw this year. Blood-soaked leather, the moans of a witch (The Mouth Of Satan) & an army of guitar players cast a serious spell on me. Do not miss them the next time they come to America. (Josh)

HEALTH “We are Water” from Eric Wareheim on Vimeo.

Eric Wareheim directed this and it’s not in the style you might expect (unless of course you’ve seen this before, duh). That “Get Color” album from Health got a lot of play here when it first came out. As noted there is explicit content (gore) in this video so possibly NSFW; sets a mood and stays in it until the very end. (Rick)

Converge has been one of my favorite bands for the past 7 years or so, and they’ve been releasing quality material for the past 20+ years. They recently put out a split with grind legends Napalm Death, and have a new LP coming out this fall. Rumor has it they’re playing around these parts in the coming months, so keep an eye out for that. (Sean)

We brought in some used Alice Cooper LPs today. Alice Cooper is a pioneer of hard rock who is a self proclaimed born again christian who loves golf and is well known for over the top stage theatrics including decapitations via guillotine. Check out this video for “Teenage Frankenstein”. (Josh)

This is not pop music. Not music. Visceral powerful bliss to the right ears. I like to listen so loud that it physically effects me (full body massage). (Rick)

Xasthur with Nachtmystium! Black Metal! I’m seriously just adding exclamation points to the description of this video. Two great tastes that taste grim together.

I’ll be the first to tell you I wasn’t into “Visions” quirky pop upon my first listen (or 5th). What makes this more inexplicable is that I was entirely into “Geidi Prime” (Grimes’s first album – I like the raw non-produced qualities) and her half of the split with D’Eon (still haven’t heard “Halfaxa” though). Long story short, saw her and gave the album another listen. Turns out I think it’s great. This most recent video reminds me that the NYC Comic-Con is happening the same weekend as the NYC RevFest 25th Anniversary dealio. (Rick)

True story: I (Rick) went to the Pacific Northwest a couple weeks ago and visited a few spots specifically because of their appearance in Twin Peaks. This week we got in the Eraserhead OST LP put out by Sacred Bones Records. These things are going fast (Sacred Bones already announced a second pressing). Get weird David Lynch style (get it quick though or wait until the 2nd press). [Update: we ran out of these and have an order in currently for the second pressing – we’ll let you know when they’re in.]

Flower Travellin’ Band. Heavy psych that really should be mentioned in the same breath as many of their more well known western contemporaries. This live footage backs that statement fully.

We recently got in some used Pig Destroyer LPs (“Prowler In The Yard” & “Terrifyer”). It got me thinking about how excited I am to see these grindcore legends at Maryland Deathfest next year!

I bought a collection of cool classic rock LPs this morning (Alice Cooper, Bowie, The Who) from a guy who told me his son was Kurt Feldman who plays drums for The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart (As well as in The Depreciation Guild and The Ic e Choir). When I told him I carried their records in my store he got real excited! It was nice watching someone have a proud dad moment. POBPAH play summery feel good indie pop jams. Check out this video for “Say No To Love”.

It’s no secret that I’m a huge Integrity fan & collector. So today is pretty awesome because, the repress (originally on Victory) of their 1995 release,”Systems Overload” on Organized Crime Records arrived. Dwid & Co. have built a 20+ year career out out of making dark and explosive metal influenced hardcore. Check out the video for the title track. Mosh your bedroom. (Josh)

The Codeine discography got the deluxe reissue treatment from the Numero Group recently – done extensively and well. 3 records with plenty of stuffing! (It’s like Thanksgiving.)

“Vee Vee” was the first of the Archers of Loaf CDs/LPs to get the remaster and reissue treatment. We’ve gotten in a couple more since then (still have “Vee Vee” of course, but now also “White Trash Heroes” and “All The Nations Airports”).

I really love the passion expressed in this. Four Tet knows what’s up when it comes to DJ’ing and just generally filling that record bag (and “WOAH!” to a lot of those finds!). Pretty solid dude. And here’s a bonus video of an actual song of his:

Our budz in Manic Productions announced a Sunn O))) (pronounced like the amps of the same name, btw) show recently and tickets have just gone on sale (we have them here for no service charge – as per usual with Manic shows). Check this video of them playing in a church (A Big Church! – but not so big that it needs to be entirely caps locked) in Belgium. The event listing can be found here. It’s Manic’s second show with Sunn O))) and if it’s as memorable (and good) as the first you won’t want to miss it.

Haven’t posted a video yet today and Big L was in the corner of my eye and then “Ebonics” came into my head, but that one didn’t get the video treatment so check out this other also impossibly great song. Hip Hop.

“Let The Right One In” (Swedish film not to be confused with “Let Me In”, the American remake) was my favorite movie of the last 5 years. The film is the perfect balance of horror & love, accentuated by the beautifully dark atmosphere created in Johan Soderqvist’s score. Recently, we got LPs of that score on Death Waltz Recording Co. Unfortunately, the song “Kvar I Min Bil” by Per Gessle is not featured.

Tonight, The Arc Agency has set up a sweet six band hardcore show in Milford consisting of three newer Deathwish Inc. bands (Punch, Living Eyes, & Oathbreaker) and three locals (Cold Snap, Hunger Strike, & Loach). I am most interested in wa tching Oathbreaker who play tight, gritty hardcore fused tastefully with elements of speed, doom, & black metal. They’re here all the way from Belgium so make sure to check out their merch table!

The Shlohmo album LP “Bad Vibes” was on my (Rick’s) best of 2011 list and it is still in my steady rotation especially on days/daze when I’m feeling a little spaced out (everyday). Solid laid back beats and atmospheres (honestly, more like good laid back vibes).

There is not one truth on CNN. Earlier today CNN had a story related to the Wisconsin shooting. They listed a bunch of white power bands. They included Hatebreed (very mistakenly). Here they are 17 years ago and looking it (straight off a VHS tape).
