Record Store Day & 8th Anniversary Sale Announcement

On April 12th the store turns 8 years old! As usual we’ll be having a week long sale. The sale will run from April 11th to April 17th.

Redscroll-8th-Anniversary

On April 18th it will be Record Store Day and we will once again be participating. We’ll be opening at 8AM and closing at 10PM.  We’ll have a special store set up different from any other time before (more on that later).  All the usual bells and whistles (goodie bags, food trucks). We’ll have a ton of the special releases.

You can view a list of all the releases of the day here: http://www.recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases

We’ll post a list of what we actually have in the store the night before (on the April 17th Update). We’ve ordered basically everything, but we won’t know what we’ll actually get until it shows up.

Redscroll-8th-Anniversary SQRL Close Up

We’re going big with the 8th Anniversary Sale this year. Big discounts: 30% off all used stock, 50% off clearance items, used CDs for $1 and 15% off new stock.  To be clear, the sale will actually end on the Friday before Record Store Day. We’re starting it earlier than usual and ending it that day for a variety of reasons, but most of all to try and make every day of the week ahead of time a breeze to get in and get those deals.

RSD Dave Grohl 2015

On Record Store Day (April 18th) we will again have the RSD specific line in the back of the store, but instead of it leading to the front of the store it will just be it’s own sort of pop-up shop. The tent will be in the lot. We’ll have a register out there and all the RSD items will be in it. Regular shoppers will still be able to come in through the front door and shop throughout the day as well, but now without the congestion of the RSD specific titles at the front of the store. Long story short: regular record shopping in the store, Record Store Day shopping in the tent!

7th Anniversary & Record Store Day Sale

So, April is right around the bend and we’re just cresting that hill where all we can see and think about is our 7th Anniversary & Record Store Day Sale! We opened shop on April 12th, 2007 and it’s all been upward mobility since thanks to all of you who have come through our doors (and/or ordered online). We thank all of you for that and we’re not going to stop working hard at giving you all reasons for coming back!

die-die-dieThis announcement right here is for those who will be able to get here and celebrate in person.

We’ve also decided to do a special promotion this year for those who do order online – keep an eye on our social medias for that special closer to our official anniversary (April 12).

Our in-store sale will run from Sunday April 13th, 2014 through Record Store Day April 19th, 2014.

We have added one particular big promotion to this year’s sale: 50% Off Clearance LPs! Woah, that’s half! We are again running with the $1 CD and used LPs (all LPs marked $3 or under will be just $1 for that week). 15% off everything else.

Record-Store-DayFor Record Store Day (Saturday, April 19th) we’ll have the added incentives of the RSD exclusive titles (more information on those will follow in coming weeks of course).  We open at 9AM that day and close at 10PM. The tent will be set up out back full of 7″s and will serve as the entrance for that day. We will have goodie bags for the first liner-uppers (how many is dependent on how much swag we acquire / are sent). We expect a lot of people once again so if you are determined to get something in particular from the exclusives please plan on being here super early. Those of us who work here get here at the crack of daylight and there has generally been a full line by the time we get here which only grows until we open the doors and can last for much of the day. We expect a nice friendly group again and to show our appreciation for that we’ve once again invited the Hardcore Sweets Cupcake Truck & G-Monkey Mobile out to keep y’all fed.

We’ll do our best to keep you up to date with any details that may arise leading up to the events. For now, you should probably just get excited and continuously refresh this page and all our social network sites in anticipation.

12th Of April 2013 Update / We’re 6 Years Old Today!
at Redscroll Records

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US! We are 6 years old today. We opened our doors on April 12, 2007 and it has been pretty incredible to see what this store has become with all of your support. So, thank you and we’ll continue to keep pushing to be better each year than we were the year before (or today better than yesterday even).
Nate Even Made Us Some Birthday Cards!

[The party in question is the ongoing party that is our store! So, you know, not formal and only occasionally raucous.]

Ape School Junior Violence
(Hometapes)
A well-known figure in Philadelphia’s music scene, Michael Johnson uses his second full-length to expand on the late-80s/early-90s neo-psychedelia sound, which included bands like Mercury Rev and The Boo Radleys. He uses a rotating lineup of musicians to build up a wall of melodic synth, with the resulting songs drawing elements from genres such as psychedelic rock, alt-rock and New Wave. In addition to sunny risers such as opener “A New Low! It Sucks Itself!” and “Cocaine & Guns ASAP,” the comfortably cool 80s-flashback songs are my personal favorites. The drifting ambient dream “Beneficiary (Don’t Blame Me)” and richly radiant memory “Weak in the Teeth” made me feel the most at home, almost like I was reliving an era I was too young to remember.

Efterklang Piramida

(4AD)
To get inspiration for their fourth album, this Danish indie-rock group spent nine days at an unexpected location: the former Russian coal mining community of Pyramiden, located on Norway’s northernmost archipelago and active for most of the 20th century. They captured over a thousand field recordings there, which they later expertly interspersed with instruments such as synth, piano and brass to create a subdued but very emotion-rich, moody sound. Right from the start of the haunting opener “Hollow Mountain” is an ancient-sounding melody created by lightly tapping a huge, hollow metal cylinder found on the settlement, soon joined by a mournfully angelic dirge, Casper Clausen’s far-reaching baritone, and synth and brass to complete the feeling. The lost-love lament “Apples” continues with a more dramatic, personal direction, telling someone to “run away” to be forgotten. One particular surprise is “Between The Walls,” starting out electronic as elegant-sounding glitch and swelling into a grand synth/brass ensemble.

The Story So Far What You Don’t See

(Pure Noise)
On their sophomore release, The Story So far have progressed their musical ability and sound as a band. What You Don’t See is a logical progression musically from their previous release, which is a breathe of fresh air for listeners who feel like bands change their sound too much between albums. This record is an honest confession by vocalist Parker Cannon and how he feels. Unlike many bands in the pop punk genre who sing about generic break-ups and skateboarding, The Story So Far provide a genuine and personal feel about how it feels to be in a band at their level of success, while also singing about love and loss that listeners can relate to. The Story So Far are swiftly rising in popularity in this new wave of pop punk bands including The Wonder Years and Man Overboard. After the release of their previous album, Under Soil & Dirt, this band has blown up in this scene and listening to their sophomore album it is easy to tell that this is not a fluke.
Suggested Tracks: Stiffled, Right Here, Empty Space, All Wrong

It’s coming! The 6th Anniversary & Record Store Day Sale!

It’s coming!
The 6th Anniversary & Record Store Day Sale!

We are very excited to announce that on April 12th we’ll have been open for 6 years! Thanks to everyone who has ever walked through our doors – you’re the best!

The sale will start on April 15th (the Monday before Record Store Day – which is the 20th of April) and will go through the end of regular hours on Sunday, April 21st (the day after Record Store Day).  The big discount for the week is 15% Off Everything (not combinable with any other discounts or offers). All used CDs will be a mere one dollar ($1!) and used LPs that are marked $3 or less will also be $1.

For Record Store Day (April 20th, 2013) we’ll be open special hours – from 9AM-10PM.  We will have many many special releases (if you’ve come here during RSD in the past you know what to expect – a literal metric ton of exclusive LPs, 7″s and what-have-you related musical merchandise).  We’ll have goodies bags filled with appropriate swag from record labels and bands and related businesses and fun people both near and far.  We’ve got our own special promotional item coming too. We’ll be setting up the tent in back again – it will be filled with tables of 7″s for easy browsing.  The line will be forming at the tent in back as well.  To make your wait a little more fun we’ve lined up some food trucks. Bring cash for food from Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes and G-Monkey Mobile (from the owners of G-Zen).  They’ll both be here for the opening at 9AM for a few hours. Get here early, eat, buy music and generally have a good time. [Pssst, the head-in-hole MJ & ET standee will be out for all the photo ops you can handle.]

We’ll have the full list of what exclusive titles in stock for Record Store Day posted when we have them here. If you’re looking for anything in particular please look forward to reading that on April 19th (day before RSD).

Record Store Day! 20th Of April 2012 Update

Record Store Day Eve
20th Of April 2012 Update of New and Key Restocked Items
at Redscroll Records
Hey all! We’re super excited and very tired from all the preparation we’ve been doing for Record Store Day tomorrow! We’ve got a regular stock update too so if you’re looking for the Record Store Day stuff solely you can scan on down (or CTRL+F “Record Store Day Titles”).
Tomorrow we’ll also be using the front door solely as an exit and the back door as the entrance (with a tent!). There will be signs and it will be completely obvious as to where to go, we swear. If you show up early (and if you’re looking for specific titles we highly suggest you show up early), line up by the tent out back!
As ever, Record Store Day items are limited to one of each title per person (different versions of single titles are a fine loophole, but that only really applies to maybe one thing [go for it]).
A couple other specifics for tomorrow (RSD2012): there will be no trade-in or consignment business so if you do need that please leave it for another day; the next day even. We will also not have any listening stations for that day. This is all a good thing, I swear. It helps us keep the flow of the store nice and smooth so we can all enjoy what’s happening around us at the moment (that maybe sounds hokey, it is, but I mean it).
Thanks in advance to everyone coming out. It really is a great thing to see so many folks come through and then of course to see you all throughout the year is wonderful. And we have goodie-bags for the first however many bags we have number of people!
We’re also doing 25% off new CDs tomorrow as a bonus to the non-vinyl among us (or to those of us that like both – anybody that likes CDs, basically).
On to the updates! First, regular stock and then the bounty of Record Store Day 2012.
