RSR PC 038 Three Pieces of News!

This month’s edition of the podcast is a little different than usual. We have no guest. We play whole songs at the end in a playlist (time stamped track list below). And most importantly we discuss three big pieces of news for us!

News:
1. Appointment Shopping is now available! More details at this link. [UPDATE: You do not need an appointment now!]
2. We are moving! A bigger store is coming (just a short distance away in Wallingford). More details to come. We hope to be open in the new space for Black Friday (November 27th). [UPDATE: We have been open in the new location for quite a while now! Come on by!]
3.  We are releasing a record by Chained to the Bottom of the OceanIt is called The Vestige and it is all of their long out of print records in one giant package! A double LP in a tri-fold jacket with incredible new art.

More on all of that on the podcast. Plus, the side note that we’ll be running the next RSD Drop in the same way we did the September Drop so look out for that at the end of the month.

The Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean record can be pre-ordered now through our Big Cartel page here:

RSR PC 037 Ben Michael (WESU General Manager)

We talked to Ben Michael on episode 37. Ben is the General Manager of WESU, Middletown – 88.1FM, wesufm.org.  We talk to Ben about the current state of the station specifically and about what it’s like to operate in pandemic conditions at a University – Wesleyan in this case.

Ben Michael

We talked about the mission of WESU, the part it plays in the community and of some particular shows of interest on there. Some history of the station is touched on as well as some noted alumni. And we talk to Ben about his personal history with the station and with music in general and about his homestead farm with his mule and donkey and chickens and goats!

We once again recorded outside in our back parking lot to maintain a nice social distance and it once again led to us dealing with the elements – especially some strong winds and of course the passing trains.

The Redscroll Podcast is a monthly show (new episodes on the first of the month) that works as a companion to what we do at Redscroll Records in Wallingford, CT USA. We are a record store that has a heavy emphasis on the left of center / underground music of the world. Whether it be underappreciated or just has a niche audience, marginalized or just off the radar it’s all of interest to us. With the show we’ll generally have a localized focus. We’ll discuss what is in our personal rotation at the moment. We’ll talk to guests who have to do with all of the above. And we’ll talk about specific dealings with the store. If you have input you’re welcome to contact us through email (redscroll@gmail.com). Oh, and please do subscribe! New episodes on the first of every month! (Subscribe on Android)(Subscribe elsewhere just by searching for us please!)

RSR PC 036 Paul of Undercliff

On this episode of the podcast we talk to Paul of Undercliff, a doom band from right nearby in central CT. We talk about the new record released just about a month ago. We talk about the now torn down facility the band is named after. We talk about Tyvek suits and coping during the pandemic in general.

We once again did this one outside. Paul brought his own mic, stand and chair! Paul also runs PLX-FX – a pedal making venture. We talk about that too (or mostly he does as we know not much of that world). Lots of talking beyond that too.  A good time to be had / was had.

RSR PC 035 Stone Jaw (Terry)

On this episode of the Redscroll Podcast we talk with Terry of Stone Jaw (and a few other projects). We talk about Dungeons & Dragons and dungeon synth. We talk about getting into noise and the various approaches to it and all the potential people finding it during their time locked in their living quarters. We talk about NPR for some reason.  And we even talk about Stone Jaw as a musical noise project a little.

Terry lets us know how he particularly got into making noise versus the art mediums he was previously into – how his visual works led him down that path. Talk of John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg ensues. Then we bring it all home with sports. How we got there you’ll have to listen.
