15th Of April 2016 Update: RECORD STORE DAY EDITION

15th Of April 2016 Update of New and Key Restocked Items
RECORD STORE DAY PREVIEW EDITION
at Redscroll Records

Redscroll-RSD16
In this update you will be able to read and get excited over the list of available items in our store for Record Store Day (April 16th, 2016; Hours 8AM-10PM). If you’ve been through before on RSD you know the deal and what to expect, but just in case you’re new or need a refresher I’m going to go over a few things:

RSD 2015 PARKING DIAGRAM

This map shows where you should be able to park with ease. There is a free lot across the street from our front door (entrance besides Western Fashion Y Mas and also on the far side from off Center Street) and also across the train tracks from our back door (near Brothers Restaurant). There will be spots marked off for our RSD Tent (where the line will form) and for food trucks. Spots will also be specifically marked as designated for our neighbors (got to keep in good graces with them) – please heed these and be good!
Record Store Day is HUGE these days. Not just here, but everywhere.
Be aware, we are doing our best to quicken things up year to year. We are doing our best to make your visit and possible long wait in line as comfortable (even pleasurable) as possible.
Food trucks will be arriving in the morning (Hardcore Sweets [cupcakes] will probably arrive early-ish, G-Monkey will be arriving at about 9:30AM).

If you plan to stand in line for releases please plan accordingly. If you are in line please have friends/neighbors (we’re all friends here, right?) near you keep your spot to go to a donut shop, local purveyor, what-have-you to get a snack/breakfast and/or use the bathroom (use the honor system with respect and DO NOT hold spots for people that are not there yet [your friend arriving later must line up in the back]). Once you see any of us here (we should be there around 6AM) and you need to use the bathroom let us know and we’ll help you out. We will have someone patrolling the line and handing out water as well. It’s supposed to be pretty warm – dress appropriately!
As much as we’d like to have every possible thing on hand in quantities exactly matching the demand it just can’t work that way. We order a tremendous amount as do many other stores. We are allocated certain amounts of things and ultimately we get a lot because we put in the leg work. That said, we get less than we order and in some cases we miss out on items completely (trust us, it’s not purposeful by any stretch). We want everyone to be happy in the end so be excellent to each other.
Goodie bags will be available for the first 100 or so (that number is not exact, but close) folks to check out. Bags differ greatly in content and are generally full of fun stuff from such friends as: Lovecraft Tattoo, Manic Productions, Arc Agency, Brass City Boss Sounds, Shogun Screenprinting, No Idea, Run For Cover, Twin Lakes Records, Peppermint Daydream Records, Square of Opposition, Krust Pizza Bourbon Bar, Erased Tapes, Sub Pop, No Idea, Topshelf Records, Deathwish, and a whole lot more!

Record Store Day 2016 Employee Picks

Record Store Day 2016 Employee Picks
RSD16
We know the anticipation for Record Store Day needs no further prodding and believe us when we say we can’t wait to get it underway. Preparations are at a level 10 (out of 10 – not hyperbole) here. As part of easing our anxiousness we set aside some time to pick out about 5 things each (rule bending forthcoming) we are individually excited about. These are by no means the most anticipated by many of you, I’m sure (turns out person to person has different tastes?!), but these are some things we’re looking forward to giving a spin. Perhaps a bit esoteric for some and perhaps a hidden gem for others to discover. Please read along and perhaps surf the web for a new favorite treasure.  Once again, if you’re looking for anything in particular please check back on our site Friday evening when we’ll have our full list posted.

Q Picks RSD 2016!

BIG-STAR-live-at-university-of-missouri-450x450

I love me some Big Star. This RSD LP is the first commercial release of their historic 1993 reunion show at the University of Missouri.

The Flaming Lips, those weird freaks from Oklahoma, are ramping it up with two releases for RSD. Heady Nuggs Vol. II 2006 – 2012 is a collection of their mid-2000’s output to today, consisting of At War With The Mystics, Christmas On Mars, Embryonic, The Dark Side Of The Moon, and The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. So yeah, there is quite a lot of goodness to behold here. The other item, an alternative mix of 1997’s Clouds Taste Metallic entitled Lightning Strikes The Postman, is my number one pick for this year’s RSD releases. Clouds is a 90’s alternative masterpiece.

David Bowie. He may be gone, but he still lives on, in us and in his works. This year brings two David Bowie reissues that I’m sure fans will be excited to grab. The first is 1970’s The Man Who Sold The World and the second is the “TVC 15” single from 1976’s Station to Station, bundled with a 2010 single edit of “Wild is the Wind.”  “Wild is the Wind” is one of my favorite songs so I’m happy to see it see some light.

Mac DeMarco’s Another (Demo) One  is yet another great release by the Canadian prankster that adds even more lo-fi reverb magic to his tunes.

The Autumn Defense, a side band of Wilco headed up by bassist John Stirratt and multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone, are issuing a limited LP re-release of their 2001 debut The Green Hour. Influenced by The Zombies and Love, The Green Hour contains soothing vocals backed by lush arrangements.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac is one of my all-time favorite albums. With Lindsey Buckingham handling most of the production work like a mad scientist bent figuring out the perfect formula, it honestly sounds like an indie album from the early 2000’s. RSD is offering an alternative version.

Redscroll-RSD EDIT

In this update you will be able to read and get excited over the list of available items in our store for Record Store Day (April 18th, 2015; Hours 8AM-10PM). Record Store Day is HUGE these days. Not just here, but everywhere. Articles about how huge Record Store has gotten and people’s feelings on it have been flooding my feed this past week.

Be aware, we are doing our best to quicken things up year to year. We are doing our best to make your visit and possible long wait in line as comfortable (even pleasurable) as possible.

Food trucks will be arriving in the morning (Hardcore Sweets [cupcakes] will probably arrive early-ish, G-Monkey will be arriving at about 10AM).
